On July 1st, I assumed the role of Interim Provost for the University of Kansas. During the past academic year under the leadership of then Provost Richard Lariviere, a strong foundation was established that set the standard for Latino efforts and initiatives at KU. As Interim Provost, I too remain steadfast in our commitment to continue our efforts to increase Latino enrollment and to improve our outreach efforts to Latino students and their families across the state of Kansas.

I am very pleased to announce that on May 4th, Toni Casados began her new position as the recruitment support coordinator for Southwest Kansas. Based in Garden City, Toni will be working to serve the Latino communities within Garden City, Dodge City, Liberal and surrounding areas. She will be working with students of all ages – from the public schools to community colleges - and their families to emphasize the importance of preparing for and attending a four-year institution; and more specifically to inform and address questions about theThe University of Kansas. I believe Toni will be a wonderful ambassador for KU. To view the news release about Toni’s new role, please click on the KU News Release.

I am also pleased to announce and introduce Professor Fred Rodriguez as the Interim Associate Vice Provost for Diversity and Equity. Dr. Rodriguez has held a number of administrative roles while at KU. I look forward to his leadership and to our collaboration in enhancing and strengthening this important initiative. Fred began this new role on July 1st.

I am eager to maintain our collaborative relationships we have established thus far and look forward to working with each of you as we continue to improve our work to improve the education of Latino students in the state of Kansas.

As always, I welcome your guidance and encourage your feedback.

Sincerely,

Danny J. Anderson,
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
